A smart move and the beginning of a lucrative partnership for Vodafone and MySpace. It is a fantastic marketing coup for MySpace who has still to improve its brand awareness and its presence in Europe, and Vodafone who will further develop its younger customer base.
LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile phone company Vodafone Group unveiled a deal with News Corp's MySpace on Wednesday that will allow its customers to access the popular web-based social network using cell phones. The exclusive deal will help Vodafone, Europe's biggest mobile operator, boost mobile usage and with it data revenues, and also helps MySpace launch itself in the European mobile market.
Neha Tiwari talked to Larry Magid, a technology consultant, on how the social network should monitor the age of its users. They also discussed the pros and cons of having a privacy option for one's profile.
In the last couple of months MySpace, the most popular social network in the world, suffered from a couple of serious issues which could jeopardize its commercial success.
* a couple of months ago, a guy assaulted a teen (both were MySpace members) and the familly sued MySpace for letting an adult get in touch with the teen. * three weeks ago, MySpace's servers were unavailable for almost a day, because of the heat (power outtage) * last week, MySpace has deleted some profiles (MySpace Glitch Takes Down Profiles)
Videos on YouTube MySpace is very popular, and there are hundreds of personal videos on the excellent YouTube. Please find two examples below: the first one is about the assault and the tragedy, the second is an example of how creative teens can be...
Usually, I buy wired magazine when I am traveling. This time, I was on my way to Mumbai (India).
Good picture of Rupert Murdoch, which made the cover of Wired magazine in June 2006.

Another impressive figure from MySpace, which is one of the most visited websites in the world (and it is pretty much only US centric... It is astonishing!): MySpace Captures 17% Of June Ads
"SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE MYSPACE LAST month garnered 17 percent of online display impressions--up more than two points from May's 14.6 percent, according to new data by Nielsen//NetRatings AdRelevance.
The most popular site with advertisers remained Yahoo Mail, which drew 35.7 percent of impressions. MSN Hotmail came in a distant third, behind MySpace, with 7.2 percent of ads." ____________________________________________________________________________________ Technorati:socialnetworking, myspace
I have found that news in the metro today: one more time, I like the fact they talk about social networks in a daily newspaper in the UK (even though MySpace is not big in Europe...)
MySpace fried by record heat "MySpace was shut down for more than half a day following a heat-induced power cut." (more)
