Even though it is the era of broadband, is working from home still an utopia? Can we have a successful career and aspire to have a better quality of (family) life?
Technically almost nothing now prevent people to work from home: we have some decent internet connection, people can reach you wherever you are on your cellphone...
The problem still remains in term of management: managers are still quite uncomfortable to let their people work from home. But with clear key indicators, you can measure the performance of your employees even if they are based at home!
Please find below an article I read today in the metro, in London:
Home working is "threat to career"
"MANY office workers fear that asking their bosses for permission to work from home could harm their career prospects, a study suggested yesterday. While nine out of ten people believe that all staff should have the same rights to a more flexile work-life balance, fourty per cent feel they are not trusted by their employers to work from home. Sixty per cent said staff without children ran the risk of harming their careers by requesting more flexible work patterns, business communications provider Inter-Tel found."
